Luxe Pack Monaco Preview

A luxurious venue for a luxury packaging show

The Mediterranean sea serves as the picturesque backdrop for the 18th Annual Luxe Pack Monaco exposition. Held at the Grimaldi Forum from Nov. 2-5 in the tiny principality of Monaco, the exhibition features luxury packaging suppliers for the fragrance and cosmetic markets, as well as other prestige industries.

The 2004 edition of Luxe Pack Monaco showcased more than 320 exhibitors and was visited by 5,390 industry professionals from around the world. It was also the first year the show attracted more international guests than guests from neighboring France.

This year’s edition will focus around the theme of innovation. In addition to the controlled list of exhibitors, the show also offers other highlights.

Design Awards

For the third time in its history, Luxe Pack Monaco will play host to the Monaco Luxe Pack Design Award competition. Eight finalists from eight different countries will compete to come up with the winning design centered around a specific theme. The eight finalists have been chosen from more than 700 projects entered around the globe.

This year’s project is to create a high prestige bottle of water on the theme Celebration in Monaco. The finalists have received funding to develop their concept into a prototype and an all-expense paid trip to Monaco in order to be present at the grand finale during the show. The grand prize for the competition is €10,000.

Last year’s winner — Japanese team Tatsuyuki Gyotoku and Naoe Kanestsuki — created an innovative powder compact with a mirror and applicator. The design incorporated the principals of origami in an ultra-flat compact.

Conference Program

A full conference program will also run concurrently with the exhibition. The conference includes a panel discussion moderated by Marc Rosen, president of Marc Rosen Associates. This year’s topic is titled Meet the Flankers — Planning Ahead for Inevitable Brand Extensions.
Conferences will also be moderated by: Françoise Serralta of Peclers, Jonathan Ford of Pearlfisher, Ute Von Buch of Creativ Verpacken, designer Josep Maria Morera and Isabel Roig of BCD Barcelona Centre de Disseny.

New Owner

Although the same staff will be organizing the show as always, new ownership is in place. Luxe Pack’s parent company, Idice, was recently acquired by Editions Techniques de I’Automobile et de I’Industrie (ETAI). ETAI specializes in communications products aimed at professionals. This acquisition enhances the position of ETAI in the trade fair sector, in addition to its existing roster of more than 20 events.
